“I have decided to return to my city. There is a need to occupy it again and make it alive as it once was. Even from a musical point of view.” Gino Sfarra, a young luthier, says these words in his small workshop in the historic center of L’Aquila. A historic center destroyed by the 2009 earthquake and which is currently the largest construction site in Europe.
Gino, like many others, decided to bring his artisan activity to a place where it is not easy to live, but his choice has an important symbolic value. In his workshop, inside a fascinating historic building from the 1600s, Gino makes violins, violas and cellos. “For a violin or a viola” says Gino “it takes about three hundred hours of work, for a cello about eight hundred“.
